For members who are self-employed who have no fixed income or are outside the labour force such as students and housewives under the age of 60 Mohd Shahar said they can also choose to contribute to the EPF voluntarily at any time according to their ability under the i-Saraan programme up to RM60000 per year.

The Governments addition of RM50 for each contribution to the proposed pension scheme for housewives will only cover the first wife in the event of a polygamous marriage. She said the i-Suri scheme under the Employees Provident Fund EPF would be implemented in phase. In its election manifesto PH had pledged to allow housewives to have an EPF account within 100 days of it taking over Putrajaya.
